EAP version 1.31.0-dev will require Android 4+

Post by Martin » 04 Apr 2016 19:26

Hi,

Unfortunately I've met some technical restrictions of older Android versions while working on version 1.31 so it seems like I have to require Android 4+ starting with version 1.31 of Automagic.

Regards,
Martin

Do you have any idea what percentage of Automagic users are still using older Android versions?

Given the nature of the app, I would have expected that most would be using at least Lollipop, if not Marshmallow - but I could be wrong.

I have a very old phone on Android 2.2.2 that has Automagic installed! It's used as part of a home automation setup. Would an old version of Automagic be archived somewhere here so I could at least sideload it if it became necessary to resinstall it? And would it still install as registered if I did that?

That's interesting reading, thanks. I've been using Marshmallow for quite some time, so it surprises me to see that only 2.3% of Android users are on V6.

My expectation would be that the people using Automagic are probably skewed towards using the later versions of Android, though I suppose there's no way of knowing for certain.

Automagic users on average indeed use quite new versions of Android.
According to Google Play, there are 0.27% of users on Android 2.2 and 1.74% of users on Android 2.3. ~18% are already on Android 6.

Google Play will still offer to install Automagic on Android 2.2 and 2.3. You will just not get the latest version but the last compatible version available for your device. This means that you will get version 1.27 for Android 2.2 and version 1.30 for Android 2.3.
