Other than changing the bt connected devices, do I need to add anything like open spotify? If so, where in the sequence does that go?
Also do I need to install power amp as as far as I know, i don't have it?

You don't need to add Poweramp. that is just the music player I happen to use. You could replace Poweramp with Spotify if you prefer. I have a 5s delay (sleep(5000)) before clicking "OK". I don't know if the 1s you have tried is long enough.
