AFAIK, since nougat 7.0 above, any app that wants to turn on tethering should have tether permission. It is stated at the error log.

Code: Select all

Caused by: java.lang.SecurityException: ConnectivityService: Neither user 10261 nor current process has android.permission.TETHER_PRIVILEGED.
Unfortunately, this permission only can be granted to system app. Non system app can't have this permission, thus can't turn on wifi tether without root. Don't know if there is workaround for the permission.

The only way you can turn it on is via the setting or quick setting. Use Action control UI to bring down the quick setting and tap toggle wifi tether. There will UI distraction during the Control UI execution. But it is the only way without root.

OK...thanks for the info...

I will give the Control UI a shot and see if that works...

So far that seems to work well for me!

Thank you!
