Is my phone at home?

Post by Wibbly » 23 Mar 2017 10:31

I have my normal mobile phone, and another Android device (permanently powered) at home. Both are running Automagic.

What would folk recommend as the best method for my home device to detect that my mobile phone is on my home WiFi (or not)? This needs to be highly battery efficient for the mobile...

Only thing I can think of is for the home device to log into my home router admin pages and try to navigate to and parse the appropriate web page looking at the list of connected devices and see if the phone is there. But this is likely to be very complex to code and thus unrelaible. And may break/require recoding any time the router firmware gets updated! Any other ideas?

Does the mobile phone respond to pings? You could do 5, 10 or 15 minute intervals.

Will need to check what it does when Dozing. I hope it doesn't take it out of Doze mode!

What Action is best to sue to send the pings?

Reserve an IP for your phone from your router or DHCP server then use the, "Host Reachable", condition.
